Meet the faces of Cathy Allan. Below is each of our team members and a message they want to share. During this time apart, let’s stay connected!
Hi! My name is Liz - the owner and operator of Cathy Allan Ladieswear. Thanks for stopping by and spending some time with us! It's my pleasure to introduce you to our team here at Cathy Allan!
“I remember the day 22 years ago sitting in our favourite Greek restaurant when Liz told me that her dream of opening up a clothing store was coming true. She asked me if I wanted a summer job and of course, I said yes! I was there when Cathy Allan opened its doors, learning from the best and soaking up everything fashion. Even when I started my career and moved far away, my visits home always included a stop to one of my favourite places… Cathy Allan. Fast forward a decade or so, I was a stay-at-home mom and just recently moved back into the area when Liz asked if I wanted to come back.
I love my job at Cathy Allan! It gives me a purpose that is more than just about selling clothes. Liz has created a safe place that people love to be a part of and it shows. I miss my Cathy Allan family (including past and present staff) who have taught me so much over the years about what true friendship is about. I miss the customers that come in for a chat and share a bit of their lives with us. We are missing you! I can’t wait to see you all on the other side of COVID-19″
“I’m Rosalee Terry and I have had the privilege to work at Cathy Allan Ladies Wear for four years. I moved back to Lindsay from Toronto after being away for many years. It is good to be home and be with family and friends.
I’m living with my best friend “Foxy” (my cat) – he keeps me company during this time. I keep busy – doing everything that I normally put off until later. It is getting done and I feel good about this.”
“My husband and I moved to Lindsay just over 5 years ago. Previously we lived on Stoney Lake and previous to Stoney we lived in Georgetown. I was retired from administration and office management when we left Georgetown. Once we moved to Lindsay I was bored. I started to work at Cathy Allan the end of October 2017 and I immediately loved working there. It didn’t feel like work. I also have the best boss ever! I enjoy helping our customers and getting to know the people in our community.
During these unprecedented times, I am at home with my husband and my 10-year-old grandson. His mom works at the Peterborough Hospital and he has severe asthma. So it was decided that he would be better off at our place. It is a challenge every day to keep him entertained but we are enjoying it. I can’t wait for our life to resume once again. I miss my Cathy Allan family and I also miss the wonderful customers that I got to know.”
“When I finished high school I just so happened to meet Liz’s son Jesse. From there, I went on to manage a pizza restaurant for three years. Jesse and I ended up getting married and starting a family. We moved up to North Bay as my husband ran a grocery store. While we were there my dream was to become an esthetician and I took advantage of the time to get my diploma in esthetics. My husband got a new job offer in the city and we decide to move back to the Lindsay area to be closer to family. I remember looking for jobs in my field at this time but nothing was available. Liz was ecstatic that we were moving back to Lindsay so she could see her grandchildren more. I never would have thought that being back in Lindsay and working with my mother-in-law in the clothing business could be so great. I never knew that I would enjoy it so much and I believe a lot of that comes from the ambience that is created within the store. I really enjoy the customers that come in and working with the staff members.
During this pandemic, I am enjoying my isolation with my two little ones, mother and husband. I’m becoming a pro painter, a teacher and continuing to keep the house tidy. I’m looking forward to getting back to work and seeing you all in the store.”
“I agonized for months over leaving a job that I loved to go and work for Liz at Cathy Allan. I really only knew her from shopping at Cathy Allan and her visits to my place of employment, but something drew me to her. She seemed to have the same kind of spark that I have. I always loved how she and her staff made me feel special somehow. I know now that they, or should I say we make all our customers feel special… because they are. It is so much more than a job. I believe with all my heart, that I was put there for a reason, that every day that I am there I have a purpose that is so much more than selling clothes.
Fashion and decor are my passions in life, I am grateful beyond words, that I can spend my time doing both, and I feel so blessed to work with an amazing group of women who I am proud to call my friends.
I miss our customers so much and can not wait until we meet again when the dark cloud of COVID-19 is just a distant memory.
God bless you all!”
“I started working at Cathy Allan through high school as a co-op student. I would be at the store every day helping out over the span of 5 months. I graduated from high school and I have continued working for Liz! Working at Cathy Allan is truly an amazing experience because of the customers we have and my co-workers that I have the pleasure of working with. During this lockdown, I am at home with my parents and my little puppy Max. From day-to-day, I’ve been keeping busy by cleaning up around the house, watching movies and taking Max for walks around the yard. I hope everyone is staying safe during this time.”
“I’m a new marketing grad and one of the newest faces of Cathy Allan. I started in November as the Social Media Coordinator and have been more of a behind the scenes employee. I’ve grown up and lived in the City of Kawartha Lakes my entire life, and it was no surprise that when I told friends and family of my new job they had nothing but good stories to share from their shopping experiences at Cathy Allan. Over the past few months, I have been absolutely blown away by the exceptional team and customers that make Cathy Allan what it is. I’ve had the pleasure of connecting with many of you over our social media channels to help you set up an appointment, check for something in stock or simply answer a quick question. My favourite part of this job so far has been getting the follow-up messages to hear how your shopping experience went!
Through my business diploma, we got to learn about small, medium and large-sized companies. From the start, I always knew that small businesses were where I wanted to work. Liz has proven to be the exact reason why I love small businesses. She’s a genuine business person who loves and supports her community, customers and staff. It’s been such an honour to be a part of the team, and I’m excited to continue meeting more of you and connecting during this time. Stay safe and healthy!”
“My husband and I moved from Toronto in 1993. Don wanted to retire early (to enjoy a slower pace) so we left our respective jobs. For the next 3 years, we renovated the family cottage to a year-round home. We loved working with the various tradespeople and laughed a lot. I spent several years doing things I hadn’t had the time to do previously – preserving (love berry picking), gardening, decorating, entertaining, cooking (a favourite pass time) and a lot of family visits and reunions. One day while I was shopping in Lindsay, I discovered Cathy Allan Ladieswear, then located in the Town N’ Country Plaza on Angeline St. North. I was thrilled to find a local ladieswear shoppe that suited me to a ‘T’. One visit, Leslie was working and out of the blue, she asked me if I’d ever considered working in retail? Well, a few days later I joined Cathy Allan just to see. Well, here I am 19 years later. It seems to be working out!!
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many people over the years – buyers and fellow retailers but the highlights were meeting designers Simon Chang and Joseph Ribkoff. I’ve enjoyed attending buying markets assisting in selecting unique and beautiful accessories for you. I’m grateful for Liz, and all of my co-workers (past & present) whom I learn from every day. As we face these very challenging times, I know we all look forward to calmer days ahead. We are blessed to live in a small community where being a good neighbour really makes the difference – look after yourself, and your family. Stay safe and healthy and we’ll look forward to seeing you and catching up as soon as possible.”
“It has been my pleasure to work for my niece, Liz for over 15 years as her bookkeeper.
I work behind the scenes and can usually be found in my office downstairs but occasionally I wander upstairs and get to experience the joy on ladies faces when they find that perfect outfit.
The Cathy Allan team works diligently to help their customers find just what they are looking for. They are wonderful gals and delightful to work with, and it is especially a pleasure for me to work with my daughter Leslie.”
